Letter of the Week - R for Rainbow

I thought this would be the perfect time for us to do Letter R. We made this R for Rainbow craft inspired from notimeforflashcards. Basically you paste color construction paper stripes on the letter. It came out beautiful.

We also read the book "The Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfitzer. We did a rainbow fish craft too. R drew a fish through guided drawing and I am so proud that he did this. He then colored it orange (his current favorite color) with a crayon and then he pasted various colors of scales. For the shiny scales, we used the aluminium foil. It looks really pretty.
We also read the book "Cock a doodle Quack Quack" by Ivor Baddiel. And then we made a lowercase craft "r" for rooster craft. The craft is inspired from Totally Tots blog.

St. Patrick's Day Crafts and Activities

Book we read -
Thats what leprechaun do by Eve Bunting

We made this garland of shamrocks inspired from Notimeforflashcards. First I had cut shamrocks from the coffee filters. R mixed yellow and blue to make green color and then we also added golden glitter on top.

We also did a basic shamrock sun catcher. Cut the construction paper with a shamrock template and paste contact paper on the paper and then stick tissue papers on the contact paper.

I also made a sensory box for the St.Patrick's theme by putting green color rice, yellow lentils, Green pom poms, gold coins, tongs and cups.

We did some letter wriitng practice. I wrote the theme words with a highlighter and asked R to trace them first and then copy them in the blank boxes below. I was surprised at how his handwriting has improved. Some of the words were just so fine.

We also did a Leprechaun craft from a paper plate with orange beard and green hat.

We had a rainbow craft with VIBGYOR colors.
I drew the rainbow with the markers and made R paste the tissue papers, pompoms, scrapped papers and buttons. R really enjoyed doing this especially pasting the buttons. It came out beautiful too.

We did some counting too. Since R had been counting good things 10 or so I decided to work on things above 10. I got the print from Musings of me, She has wonderful packs for various themes.

We also did an activity to focus on phonics. R had to separate the pictures starting with sh and those which don't. He really enjoyed that. I got the print from makinglearningfun.

We also played a game of roll and color. I got the game from makinglearningfun

Finding the four leaf clover. Print is from Kidssoup

Treasure hunting for gold coins. I had written clues on sticky notes and hidden gold coins and then gold coin candy in the last clue. R really enjoyed it.

Size sorting shamrocks in small, medium and large. The print was makinglearningfun

Some of our current favorite books

These are our latest favorite books

1. Purplicious by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann

2. Mr Pusskins:A Love story by Sam Lloyd

3. Otis and Sydney and the best birthday ever by Laura Numeroff and Dan Andreasen

4. Sheila Rae, The Brave by Kevin Henkes

Community Helpers- Mail carrier

We read some of the books on the mail carriers. But our favorite was "Delivering Your Mail" by Ann Owen and Eric Thomas.

Then we played some pretend play with being a mail  carrier. I wrote some addresses of the unused envelopes and R put some stamps on them . We used the stickers as stamps and then we also made a mailbox craft inspired from notimeforflashcards.com

Just like mail carriers we stamped on the stamps and sorted them. R would sort the enevelopes by letters and put them in appropriate boxes and then it was time to deliver letters. W ehad fun with this.

Dr.Seuss - The Foot Book

We read the Foot Book by Dr. Seuss. I wasn't sure whether R will like it but he enjoyed it.

We worked on the opposite sheet from seussville.com.

And also on the measuring activity which I downloaded from 2 Teaching Mommies. Since most of our things like clothes, basket , shirts and oants were on the second floor so w ehad lots of feet to measure, so instead of coloring them we wrote the numbers.

We also measured R's foot with the unifix cubes.

How do dinosaurs get well soon? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague
Just little sick by Mercer Mayer

When Vera was sick by Vera Rosenberry

Activities-

1. I showed R various things that are in a doctor's bag and made a small craft  of all the things like cotton swab, band aid, thermometer, syringe, gauze and medicine bottle.

2. I also made a powerpoint presentation of all the vocabulary words by downloading the pictures from the Internet. R really enjoyed this.

3. There are lots of activities at 2 Teaching Mommies.  We tried measuring the patients' height using a ruler. It was nice learning experience of R . We had never measured uisng a ruler so it was fun.

4. I also downloaded the Doctors and Nurses preschool pack from Homeschool Creations in addition to the above.  We played the game of counting and placing that many number of band aids.

5. Tracing and letter M writing practice- I got this page from the Doctor and Nurse preschool pack from Homeschool Creations.

6. Tracing and writing color words - This is again from Homeschool Creations
7. Sorting the medicine bottles by size-

Since Febrauary was Dental Health month, we read some books on Dental health  and did some activities.
The books we read were

Dentist by Jacqueline Laks Gorman
The mystery of the lost tooth

Activities-

1. I got this idea from 2 Teaching Mommies. I had cut several food items form the old magazines and then made pictures of a happy tooth and sad tooth. R had to sort the food items that are good for our teeth and which are not.

2. I had cut lips from red construction paper and some yeloow teeth from yeloow construction paper. R pasted them on a sheet and made the teeth by brushing the teeth with some white paint and a toothbrush.

3. We also did a activity from prekinders.com about the teeth and cavities. I drew some teeth on paper and wrote a number on the tooth, and asked R to make that many number of cavities by a black marker. He really enjoyed doing this and was good to teach him how cavities can effect our teeth.
